R.A.F.T.
On the final day of our unit, we will be covering what kinds of things children did with their free time (time not spent in school) during colonial times.
Explanation:
RAFT Procedures:
Because we are working with kindergarten, we were advised to provide the most of the RAFT for our students. Their role will be children that live in colonial America.
A – Audience
We will let the students pick whom our letter is to. If there is too much debate or lack of ideas, we will suggest using their grandma.
F – Format of the writing
The format will be a letter that students will create as a class and I will write on the large teacher notepad.
T - Topic
I will introduce the topic by reading about it in …If You Lived in Colonial Times by Ann McGovern. I will then tell them that they can write about one of the two pictures on the poster board and they can decide which picture to write about.
RAFT Procedures:
- I will explain that we are going to use a special format to write a letter to our grandma as if were colonial kids. I will write each letter on the black board with the answers to each underneath.
